AIRCOA (Associated Inns & Restaurants Company of America) – 1974-1990
AIRCOA was a major Hotel Management &
Development Company, who, by the late 1980’s, was the largest such
Company in the United States. A review of my positions held, and
responsibilities, during the 16 year tenure, are shown below.
1988-1990 Executive Vice President
Responsible for the acquisition of other Hotel Management
Companies. In addition, functioned as the Asset Manager for Wynfield
One (see below) and for AIRCOA’s Master Limited Partnership, AHP (7
hotels, 1700 rooms, located throughout the United States)
1983-1987 Executive Vice President, Wynfield One
Responsible for the Development, and Management, of AIRCOA’s
entry into the Limited Service Hotel market segment, i.e. Wynfield
Inns From April, 1984 through December, 1987, developed and opened 8
properties, totaling 1500 rooms, in five Southeastern and Western
states.
1979-1982 Vice President, Development
With Orlando, Florida Partners, opened and expanded four (4)
major hotel properties, totaling 2,200 rooms, in Orlando and Durham,
North Carolina. All properties opened on time, below budget.
Significant equity value was created. During 1982/1983, responsible
for the development of AIRCOA’s first owned Franchise Company,
Clarion Hotels & Resorts, introduced in 1983 with twenty
properties. The Company was subsequently sold to Choice Hotels
International, Inc., at a profit.
1976-1979 Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Developed AIRCOA’s first National Sales & Marketing
Department, to service and support the Company’s 25 hotels and
resorts throughout the United States, encompassing 7,500 rooms.
1974-1975 Vice President, Operations
Supervised AIRCOA’s Southeastern hotels and resorts; 6
properties, 1100 rooms; also 4,000 apartment units. Provided both
operational and development services, including overseeing
asset/guest room additions.
Direction, Inc. - 1972-1974
Co-Founder/Owner/President of this newly formed Hotel &
Apartment Management Company. Company provided both operational and
development services for several hotel projects and 4,000 apartment
units. Direction, Inc. merged with AIRCOA in 1974.
Laventhol & Horwath - 1967-1972
Partner, International Accounting and Management Consulting Firm
specializing in the Hospitality Industry. Provided management and
financial consulting services to clients of hotels, resorts,
restaurants and country clubs, including personal involvement in
more than 1,000 operational and feasibility studies
